Philanthropy: an act or gift done or made out of love “philos” for humankind “anthropos”
At Rose & Bee, our love for humankind is at the center of everything we do. We have a strong culture of philanthropy and giving to others. We give of our time, talents, and treasures through volunteering, teaching, and direct plant donations. To quote Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World,
“You can store meat in your own pantry or in the belly of your brother. Both have the result of keeping hunger at bay but with very different consequences for the people and for the land which provided that sustenance.”
We often grow more plants than we need and when we can, we give away plants to schools and non-profits so that they can share in the abundance. By storing these in the “garden bellies” of our neighbors, we are working toward the good of humanity and the planet.
And one does not have to be a Rockefeller to be a philanthropist. Even the smallest gift, like volunteering an hour to help weed a community garden or sharing an abundance of home-grown tomatoes with a neighbor is an act of love for the human race.
If you are a non-profit, school, or community garden that would like to know when we have plants available for donations, please email elizabeth@roseandbeellc.com to be added to the list.
